Marijuana Strain Review: Purple Skunk #1

Purple Skunk #1

Purple Skunk #1

Purple Skunk #1 - Medicinal Marijuana

Physical Exam:

Visual Appeal: 9 (1-10 / unpleasant-superb)
Bud Density: 8 (1-5 / airy-dense)
Aroma Intensity: 9 (1-10 / subtle-intense)
Seed Content: 1 (1-10 / none-fully seeded)
Colours Present in Buds: 5 Green / 8 Gold / 3 White / 5 Orange / 1 Red / 4 Purple (1-10 / light-dark)
Present Aromas: 8 Skunk / 5 Hash / 2 Floral / 7 Musk / 2 Diesel (freshly cracked bud | 1-10 / weak-potent)

Comments:

Its not very common to find hybrid strains as refined as this. The sample I received from friends on Canada’s west coast is an absolutely gorgeous example of what good genetics and careful, experienced growers can accomplish. The rich, smooth smell from these buds continues to open up once out of the jar, and squeezing or cracking a nug is an even further treat to the senses. Interesting blends of deep golds and greens with subtle purple accents are  a testament to how special this strain is, and its been cured perfectly, so I’m very excited for the testing portion of this review!

Efficacy Testing:

Utensils Used: Joint (Rizla Silver)
Dosage: 0.6g
Sativa Effect: 8 (1-10 / none-heavy)
Indica Effect: 5 (1-10 / none-heavy)
Effect Onset: 2 (1-10 / immediate-creeper)
Potency: 9 (1-10 / none-heavy)
Taste: 8 (1-10 / unpleasant-superb)
Tolerance Build up: 2 (1-10 / none-rapid)
Effect Duration: ≈3 hours
Usability: 7 Morning / 5 Day & Work / 9 Evening / 6 Night (1-10 / worst-ideal time of day)

Comments:

Up for mid-morning I was pretty stoked on this test, having put it off from the night before. I weighed a .6 from the cone of the biggest bud in my sample, broke it up in my herb grinder, and rolled a good sized 1 paper joint with a 1cm cardboard filter. Almost immediately a head buzz set in, very light feeling on the brain, which to my delight lasted for most of the high. The smell of the smoke was thick and intoxicating, in my notes it just says “amazing”… The resulting flavours were far from a disappointment as well. The smoke drew out a bit of a cough which is something I try to avoid in the mornings, but it was manageable and didn’t cause any spasms. Halfway down the joint was burning very evenly to a mainly white ash, and some of the indica effects contained in this hybrid start to come through with weight on the eyelids. By the end I was sitting in a small cloud of good-vibes… I felt great, very talkative and funny, and was super ready for breakfast.

Conclusion: 9/10

Excellent Smoke! It’s just as powerful (and sooo much nicer tasting) in the vaporizer, providing a great “cherry-on-top” to my day of often indica-heavy medication, or as noted here, a wake-n-bake to get your day started with positive vibes. This is a beautiful and very distinct batch of medical marijuana, one I’ve been super happy to include in my regiment the past week… If you come across this rare hybrid, my clear recommendation is to try it out. There is such a wide array of strong effects to be felt from this plant, I’m sure it can help someone!

Marijuana Strain Review : Green Crack

Green Crack

Green Crack

Green Crack - Canadian Medicinal Marijuana

Physical Exam:

Visual Appeal: 8 (1-10 / unpleasant-superb)
Bud Density: 3 (1-5 / airy-dense)
Aroma Intensity: 8 (1-10 / subtle-intense)
Seed Content: 1 (1-10 / none-fully seeded)
Colours Present in Buds: 4 Green / 3 Gold / 2 White / 4 Orange / 1 Red / 1 Purple (1-10 / light-dark)
Present Aromas: 6 Skunk / 2 Hash / 4 Floral / 6 Musk / 7 Diesel (freshly cracked bud | 1-10 / weak-potent)

Comments:

I’ve gone through a fair bit of Green Crack, this is certainly a top 5 strain for me, especially due to it’s effects. This batch is noticeably different from previous incarnations, mainly because of it’s open/airy bud structure. The trichomes dust the buds nicely, and the greens are super vibrant. Typically I expect a deep, dark green and 1-2g densely packed nugs, but was very surprised with how this arrived. Though it looks nothing like the GC I’m used to, the smell confirmed (right away) the genetics. There is a quick burst of that kushy “kick” with a sharp but musky kind of smell, almost like an organic gasoline. No other plant has the signature smell of Green Crack… It’s beautiful!

Efficacy Testing:

Utensils Used: The Oracle Infrared Vaporizer (Standard Bag)
Dosage: 0.3g
Sativa Effect: 9 (1-10 / none-heavy)
Indica Effect: 5 (1-10 / none-heavy)
Effect Onset: 3 (1-10 / immediate-creeper)
Potency: 9 (1-10 / none-heavy)
Taste: 8 (1-10 / unpleasant-superb)
Tolerance Build up: 3 (1-10 / none-rapid)
Effect Duration: ≈2 hours
Usability: 7 Morning / 6 Day & Work / 9 Evening / 6 Night (1-10 / worst-ideal time of day)

Comments:

Wake & Vape with Green Crack. Seriously. Sometimes getting going in the morning is an issue for me, strong indicas are the most effective strains to distract me from pain and so make up the majority of my medicinal selections. Getting this sativa dominant GC was new to me, and I found it to be a perfect multi-purpose, any-time kind of plant. The thick vapor produced around 375°F acted as an amazing expectorant, I had an eye-watering cough happening after just a few hits directly from the bag. It kinda kicked my ass. 15 minutes later with a light, clean buzz in my brain I was myself enjoying the buildup of effects, especially noting a great mood elevation while booting around the internet and taking notes for this post.

Doing some follow-up research (inspired by the effects of my testing session) I’ve learned that there are (at least) 2 different types of Green Crack that are common on the west coast, one being the dark & dense indica version I’m accustomed to, and the other a brighter and more sativa dominant plant… I think its pretty clear this is the sativa dominant side of the genetic pool, as I’m happily following links and forum threads around to hear about others’ experiences and the differences between Green Crack phenotypes.

Conclusion: 8.5/10

Top 5 every single time. Standard. This batch was amazing for work, but definitely put aside some time to medicate and adjust because it can provide a bit of a beatdown. Kicking off the day, or kicking back with some videogames to relax, it works and is definitely a treat. While I enjoyed my romp with this sativa, I still prefer the denser, darker version… If you have the Canadian, Indica based Green Crack genetics, please get in touch with me.

Green Crack

British Columbia's finest!

Note: The first joint I rolled from this batch during a session with Cannabis Champion of the World, Matt Mernagh. We didn’t finish it.

Marijuana Strain Review : K-Town

K-Town

K-Town

K-Town Medicinal Marijuana

Physical Exam:

Visual Appeal: 8 (1-10 / unpleasant-superb)
Bud Density: 4 (1-5 / airy-dense)
Aroma Intensity: 8 (1-10 / subtle-intense)
Seed Content: 1 (1-10 / none-fully seeded)
Colours Present in Buds: 4 Green / 2 Gold / 3 White / 6 Orange / 1 Red / 6 Purple (1-10 / light-dark)
Present Aromas: 4 Skunk / 2 Hash / 6 Floral / 3 Musk / 3 Diesel (freshly cracked bud | 1-10 / weak-potent)

Comments:

This batch of K-Town isn’t the prettiest, but it still has some amazing physical properties… I would love to see these plants in bloom! The buds are tightly formed and trichromes coat the flowers and fan-leaves heavily all the way to the thin stems. It didn’t receive a perfect trim, but there was enough care put in to keep me from complaining. Not as much purple as the sister strain “K-Train” that I tried last month, but from the right angles it darkens the look of the sample and gives it a bit of “wow”.

Efficacy Testing:

Utensils Used: The Oracle Infrared Vaporizer (Standard Bag)
Dosage: 0.3g
Sativa Effect: 3 (1-10 / none-heavy)
Indica Effect: 8 (1-10 / none-heavy)
Effect Onset: 4 (1-10 / immediate-creeper)
Potency: 8 (1-10 / none-heavy)
Taste: 7 (1-10 / unpleasant-superb)
Tolerance Build up: 1 (1-10 / none-rapid)
Effect Duration: ≈2 hours
Usability: 3 Morning / 3 Day & Work / 9 Evening / 7 Night (1-10 / worst-ideal time of day)

Comments:

I used scissors to chop up a sample nugget, weighed out .3 and loaded it into the vape. The bowl cooked thoroughly in about 3 minutes, providing 1 ultra-thick bag @ ≈385°F (+ a few degrees towards the end of the cook). I noticed a very distinct “weight behind my eyes” and a bit of that wonderful “couch locking” indica feeling after just 3 hits from the bag, each pull was followed by a nice clean aftertaste that left a weird little tingle in my sinus. 10 mins after the bag I was feeling enjoyably spaced out but not dumbed down too much, and definitely physically relaxed. I found the effects distracting enough to act as a mild painkiller, but with enough sativa influence that my foot was still bouncing rapidly under the desk. Give or take 30 mins after medicating and I noticed how fucking hungry I was! My mouth started watering, so cottonmouth was clearly no issue… The thought of chocolate ice cream after a pulled pork sandwich lifted me from the couch with a smile.

Conclusion: 8.5/10

Hugely enjoyed this strain, will definitely medicate with it again. While it may not be the strongest or best looking batch of meds I’ve ever seen, there was definitely some care given to the plants, and the positive vibes come out with its use. Taking my mind off of pain and stimulating my appetite are among the most important effects this plant has for me, and in that regard K-Town was a smashing success. This sample came from friends in British Columbia, Canada. I wish I could offer up more details on its genetics & origins, but such is the game. If you see it, try it!

K-Train

Note: I know that a lot of bud floating around the southern US is referred to as “K Town”, often linked to specific locales, mid-grade marijuana, and sometimes even imported mexican brick weed. This is not that shit. I hope to get another batch of the sister strain K-Train again, I’ll post a full review if so, and you’ll see for yourself! Cheers!

DUST 514 : Video Game Greatness?

Have I possibly found a replacement for MAG in my life?

This fucking game looks super intense, has won awards for innovation, and appears to encapsulate what I think a videogame should be. I think [-DC] may make the move in 2012, and I’m going to have to check out EVE online in the meanwhile… I might not be the most up-to-date when it comes to gaming, but I know good when I see it, and it looks pretty fucking good to me.

Have a teaser video to wet your willy:

All growed up…

Faktah & Christina, 2 of the greatest people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing, got hitched.

Best wishes is an understatement, I love em both and am super stoked to see how their new family grows.

Congrats, and thank you so much for inviting me along for the festivities… Being “Faktah’s” wedding and all, we had DnB playing on the dancefloor at last call, OPP showed up at our afterparty, and I woke up the next morning in a daze, far from home… Standards maintained.
