Comments:

Hearing the Original Gangster would be in my sample set I got extremely excited. I’ve enjoyed numerous crosses of the O.G., so the opportunity to test/enjoy where it all came from just couldn’t be passed up! Once again shipped over from British Columbia in an air-tight container, these buds varied in size from a few grams to 0.2g popcorns. Fairly dense and very well cured, the pale stems rate high on the snappability scale (yea I made that up, so what?) and don’t account for much weight. Trichomes are interesting,  coverage inside the buds is much better than on the surface, but there is enough overall to remind me of a pine-tree with morning frost. The smell doesn’t quite jump out and grab you until ripping the plant apart, at which point one of the deepest, richest, spiciest kush smells I’ve ever experienced slaps you upside the olfactory.

Comments:

I’m really glad to be writing this review when I am because for the past week my back has been acting up, causing me a lot of pain and making me one cranky asshole to be around. After a few meetings and the day’s nonsense online I finally cleared some time for myself (and science!) to medicate and enjoy the effects of this well known indica. Sitting down on the couch with my .5 and my Oracle Infrared Vaporizer, I dug right in without hesitation. The sample broke up relatively well in my plastic grinder, providing enough dry biomass to generously fill the bowl twice.

BAG 1:
Set the temperature knob to about 3′o’clock, loaded the bowl, put the straight-stack adapter in place, and hit the button. Just under 3 minutes later the bag was swelling with moderately thick vapor, (“London Fog” as my friend Matt would say”) and ready to medicate even the crankiest of assholes. The first few hauls are really tasty; a deep green, musty, and resiny flavour for lack of better descriptors… Part way through my phone rang, and didn’t make me angry, so there is something to be said about O.G.’s effects as an anti-depressant/mood elevator. By the end of the vapor bag (and phone call) I can feel a calming buzz behind my eyes, but my back is still making it’s anger known (especially during coughs). Cleared the bowl, got prepped for round 2.

BAG 2:
Same settings and load out, don’t fix it if it ain’t broke is a pretty good rule to follow because the first bag relaxed me and improved my mood significantly, and got me thinking towards meal choices for rapidly approaching dinner. There was a bit of appetite stimulus happening for sure, but I kept my head in the game ’cause this is about the weed.  The bag filled with a much thicker vapor, nearly opaque. The depth of flavour really came through and forced my eyes to a near squint. No cough until the last hit (which happens all the time, and I think is due in part to the vacuum created when the bag is depleted) but the feeling through my back muscles was distinctly changed, not quite as sharp, and no longer at the forefront of my mind. The weight on my temples and eyes tapered off after about 20 minutes and I was left in a much improved mood.

Conclusion: 8.5/10

Excellence award of some kind. I’d give it one. I understand why these genetics have been used for crosses so often, the resulting buds always seem to be extremely potent with indica dominant effects, even if the genetics come from an unknown (likely Chemdog) source. Immediately after my vaporizer session writing became labored, so I moved to the couch and spent a solid 40 minutes in a very calm haze, zoned into the HDTV and getting a couple laughs in. My back & other muscles eased away from the ‘near-spasm’ state they were in as well, absolutely coming through when I needed it. I fully recommend this strain for medicinal use, it covers all the bases in a great, positive way.

Medical Marijuana : O.G. Kush #1

Note: I recently tried Quadruple O.G. Kush which is likely an inbred project from this, but as usual details are hazy. Chasing down the lineage of strains can be a very difficult task considering the nature of the beast, but through an hour or so of research I found a thread that might shed some light…

‘OG Kush’ (the original cut) came from an s1 from in a bag of ’91 Chemdawg in the Lake Tahoe area in 1996

I take no claim to the strains I’m reviewing here, but I trust my sources to label their products correctly. I’m not doing this to call people out or stir shit up, I’m just putting up some of my experiences and opinions. As you’ll see if you read all 31 pages of the thread (I only got to about 10, but the pertinent info is in the first post) the community can get pretty heated about the subject of MMJ genetics, and that’s a fight I’m just not interested in. My generation has grown up with “the war on drugs” so improperly focused, it can skew the reasons people get involved… A shame really.
