Medicinal Marijuana
As a licensed MMAR card holder I have the federal legal right to posess and grow marijuana for medicinal use. The following strain reviews are designed for educational and archival purposes and should not be misconstrued with illegal marijuana use.
Vapor Laboratory: Goodbye Grey Area!
There has been a flurry of activity surrounding Toronto’s vapor lounges/cafes and a lot has been coming to a ‘head’ so to speak in recent months. City council passed a motion to investigate businesses and establishments operating as vapor lounges/cafes in Toronto. It was put forth on November 30, 2011 by Councillor Mark Grimes and… Read More »

BRX (Afghani Bullrider / XXX)

Read the restSome things just can’t be properly conveyed with pictures and words. Until you’ve had the chance to see/touch/smell/taste this amazingly rare hybrid (or it’s parents, for that matter) you just won’t understand. Arriving in a sealed container from somewhere in British Columbia, this highly anticipated batch of meds had been curing for some time… Cracking the seal I was met with a Chuck Norris sized kick to the olfactory, pushing my head back with intensity. Wow. Digging in and grabbing a well formed, immaculately trimmed bud left a stinky, sticky resin coating on my fingers. The smell itself is very crisp and clean, potent, and so inviting that it literally makes my mouth water. I saved a 1gram bud cluster for my writing/testing session, so I’ll be trying and reviewing a couple different delivery methods.
Marijuana Strain Review: O.G. Kush X Trainwreck
O.G. Kush X Trainwreck

I’m having one hell of a day, so this testing session is necessary. O.G. Kush crossed with Trainwreck… I can only assume from the same genetics of the buds I’ve reviewed previously, as it comes to me from the same source. Blending the traits of 2 strong plants into 1, the dominant aspects from either will make a great medicine, so I’m excited to try it out. The sample is fairly dense but peels apart from the thin stems easily. It’s very sticky, and releases a lot more smell once the trichomes have been disturbed. It’s not the best looking or smelling batch, but looks and smells can be deceiving…
Marijuana Strain Review: Nubian Haze

Interesting to say the least. Arriving with my regular batch I only got a small sample of this strain, but it made itself known quickly. The “nubian” aspect of the name is mostly ironic as you can see in the pictures, this strain is densely coated with bright white trichomes and doesn’t have a trace of darker/purple colouring anywhere. It breaks up fairly well, rolls nicely, and smells really crisp. With about an 80% snappability factor, it was definitely given time to cure, but maybe could have used another week.
Marijuana Strain Review: Nebula

This batch smells like it comes from outer space. A cannabis cup winner from the 90′s, Nebula is a cross between a “potent father” and “white widow”, so it’s as true a hybrid as you’ll find. Said to have a very “open” structure, my batch was so dense that I’m not sure what that reference means. Arriving in a sealed container (the largest bud had to be broken in half to fit) the stab it took at my nostrils is one I won’t soon forget. An incredibly potent, acidic, citrus-y smell fills the room when it’s broken up. A little bit of stickyness makes rolling a dream, and the name comes easy with the dusting of trichome crystals (nebula = star cloud). Because of the density and overall great looks it’s easy to go overboard and roll up monsters, so you can just call me Mr.Wizard, ’cause this is about science.
Marijuana Strain Review: Rockstar
Rockstar Kush

Rockstar (aka Rockstar Kush) is one of my favourite strains for true medical qualities. Opening the container released a thick peppery smell and cracking the nugs really release the skunky and kushy tones. Beyond such an inviting smell, a great coating of trichomes from thin (perfectly snappable!) stems to the tip of the (2.5g max) buds leave a some sticky resin on your fingers and make rolling a dream. This batch is a bit lighter in colour than last year, but it still screams dank indica.

This sativa dominant blend of genetics comes with a pretty bad ass name, so I expect a lot from this sample. It arrived in a sealed container and greeted me with a very fresh, flowery plant smell when opened. Though the buds aren’t massive (largest in photo below, give or take 3g), the airy bud formations seem to thicken up the further away from the stems they get. The curing job was clearly done with care, the stems are thin with light green/grey colouring (and high snappability rate!). Wispy orange hairs make a complete coating of the buds and give the overall sample a deceivingly darker appearance. A fine dusting of trichomes is visible when I look close, and are thicker in some areas than others. Breaking up my batch for testing the aroma really kicks in, taking on much deeper and muskier tones.
Marijuana Strain Review : Northern Lights #1
Northern Lights #1

Beautiful. Its fairly obvious why these genetics have been synonymous with high-grade medicinal marijuana for so long just from the looks. Refined over many years the Northern Lights genes have been crossed back and forth with more other plants than most because of the incredible properties locked within… Short, compact and resinous, these flowers pack tightly around thin (very snappable) stems with multicoloured calyxes and dense trichome formations through and through. The deep purple shades in my sample are pretty enough to make me look past the seemingly half-assed trim job so I marked the appearance at a 9. The smell from a cracked bud isn’t overpowering but still packs a punch of sweet, piney musk.
Marijuana Strain Review: O.G. Kush #1
O.G. Kush

Comments:
Hearing the Original Gangster would be in my sample set I got extremely excited. I’ve enjoyed numerous crosses of the O.G., so the opportunity to test/enjoy where it all came from just couldn’t be passed up! Once again shipped over from British Columbia in an air-tight container, these buds varied in size from a few grams to 0.2g popcorns. Fairly dense and very well cured, the pale stems rate high on the snappability scale (yea I made that up, so what?) and don’t account for much weight. Trichomes are interesting, coverage inside the buds is much better than on the surface, but there is enough overall to remind me of a pine-tree with morning frost. The smell doesn’t quite jump out and grab you until ripping the plant apart, at which point one of the deepest, richest, spiciest kush smells I’ve ever experienced slaps you upside the olfactory…
