Some things just can’t be properly conveyed with pictures and words. Until you’ve had the chance to see/touch/smell/taste this amazingly rare hybrid (or it’s parents, for that matter) you just won’t understand. Arriving in a sealed container from somewhere in British Columbia, this highly anticipated batch of meds had been curing for some time… Cracking the seal I was met with a Chuck Norris sized kick to the olfactory, pushing my head back with intensity. Wow. Digging in and grabbing a well formed, immaculately trimmed bud left a stinky, sticky resin coating on my fingers. The smell itself is very crisp and clean, potent, and so inviting that it literally makes my mouth water. I saved a 1gram bud cluster for my writing/testing session, so I’ll be trying and reviewing a couple different delivery methods.

Comments:
About 5:30pm I took out the sample nugs and crushed them into my aluminum grinder. The sample had been waiting in a separate glass container and dried out a fair bit, but the sticky trichomes still held the plant matter together in small clumps. The smells released while finely ground buds fell into my flyer-tray were unmistakably afghani… I rolled about .6g into the paper, it formed quickly and easily, didn’t compress too much, and left me bouncing in anticipation to light it. While I often do minute-to-minute reports of my findings, this is no standard plant… Gotta do things a little differently… Keep you guys on your toes!
The Bonghits:
Starting with a couple hits from my trusty waterpipe is always a great plan. I’d wager about .1g per hit, pulled through the stem into chilled water, using a bic lighter. My first hit wasn’t a monster, but left me dazed for a full minute afterwards, followed by a wave of relaxation through all the muscles in my body. I knew then the .6g joint rolled for after was going to be a barn-burner. This is no-nonsense pot. The positive vibes in this plant is apparent from the get-go! A couple text messages distracted me between hits giving me “recovery” time to catch my breath and absorb the feelings as they presented themselves.
The Cigarette Break:
I know, I know… But in my haste to reach the computer and spark the joint, I knocked the table and spilled the bong. After a couple minutes of cursing and rapidly cleaning up, I decided to break for a smoke, check my twitter, and relax my somewhat frazzled nerves. I was strongly medicated after those 4 hits.
The Joint:
I really didn’t need to light up again, only 20 minutes or so after the session noted above, but this is science, so you know exactly what I did. The smoke break was nice, and gave me a second to review my writing so far. My mood wasn’t soured from the spill which was nice, so I grabbed the TV controller and lighter. Time for some work. 3 amazingly smooth hauls in I felt my eyelids get heavy and got the urge to post a nonsensical quote from Arrested Development… I coughed a little bit, but this is winter and I’m a smoker so it’s somewhat expected. Nearing the halfway point my cheeks were flushed, my forehead had amassed microscopic beads of sweat, and the steady chuckle caused by a favourite show just wouldn’t go away. My notes about this super-strain are hazy, the immediate effects are so euphoric and relaxing that it sort of stops you in your tracks and forces you to think and feel for a minute. One thing that can’t be overlooked is the burn quality, resulting in 90-95% white ash that closely resembles chalk. Impressive. Just after 6:30 (an hour from starting the project) by the end of the joint all I could do was sit and appreciate how truly fine the experience was. While the buzz through my temples wore down I got a big glass of water and fired up the playstation with vague intention of finding something to eat…
Conclusion: 9.5/10
This is hands-down some of the absolute greatest tasting, most potent, most effective strains of marijuana I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I struggled with the “no 10′s” rule for awhile before writing my review, but there is always room for improvement… I have no idea what/where any improvement might be, but I’m open to it. If you see this official super-strain, pick it up. Don’t hesitate! You only live once!
Notes:
It was really difficult for me to write this review. It took me a couple of weeks (and well over an ounce of the plant in question) to finally get down to writing, and even with all that ‘experience’, finding words for this specific strain was taxing. I’ve been spoiled by my sources, and their already top-of-the-game grow skills are constantly improving, leaving very little room on my grading scale (I’ll never give a 10)… Anyways, this batch contains some pretty famous genetics, and resulted in something truly amazing, so I’ll attempt to re-iterate the story as best as possible:
“Grower X” has been the supplier of numerous other high-ranking strains in the recent past, and has an amazing way with the plant. Grower X got ahold of the genetics for Afghani Bullrider (unknown how, welcome to the rumor mill) and noted it to be unstable, producing hermaphroditic plants. (I can belive that, as last summer I had an ounce of the Bullrider and still have 4 premature seeds chilling). Grower X crossed his very stable and very potent “XXX” strain with the Bullrider, resulting in 2 amazing mother plants (one ‘rider dominant, one XXX dominant). The above batch is the XXX dominant, notable in the bud formations, and immediate strong indica kick. The ‘rider dominant pheno tastes nicer and is a bit lighter, but didn’t have the same impact.

This batch smells like it comes from outer space. A cannabis cup winner from the 90′s, Nebula is a cross between a “potent father” and “white widow”, so it’s as true a hybrid as you’ll find. Said to have a very “open” structure, my batch was so dense that I’m not sure what that reference means. Arriving in a sealed container (the largest bud had to be broken in half to fit) the stab it took at my nostrils is one I won’t soon forget. An incredibly potent, acidic, citrus-y smell fills the room when it’s broken up. A little bit of stickyness makes rolling a dream, and the name comes easy with the dusting of trichome crystals (nebula = star cloud). Because of the density and overall great looks it’s easy to go overboard and roll up monsters, so you can just call me Mr.Wizard, ’cause this is about science.

2:44 – Metal grinder tears through it easily, no need for a second chop.
2:45 – Rolling. Plant matter grips the papers nicely, easy to spin up.
2:48 – Simple light. First hauls taste like candy.
2:49 – The smoke is expanding big time, kinda takes the breath away.
2:50 – Taste getting “deeper”… Reminds me of an orange gummy bear

2:51 – Trying not to let myself cough. 1 slipped out, but it didn’t hurt.
2:51 – Nearing the half-way point, its burning faster than I thought.
2:52 – Ash is about 60% white, in combination with the smell, prolly shoulda been flushed sooner?
2:53 – Feeling slightly distracted, but mind is racing over the list I need to accomplish today.
2:54 – Re-light. This is a very interesting tasting/smelling bud, I don’t know if I reeeally like it.

2:56 – Airy behind the eyes, no familiar indica weight really, this is different.

Conclusion: 8.5/10
Rubbing my eyes from the last hauls of my scientifically sized marijuana cigarette, I can’t help but draw a blank. While I’m certainly feeling medicated, I’m unsure of how to word it and accurately describe the effects specifically. My back pain & muscle spasms haven’t faded, but weren’t a huge issue at the get-go. Nebula is a “classic” medicinal marijuana strain, and I would imagine the refined sativa powered genetics are what made this a favourite for many over the years. Depending on the issue paired with, and time of day used, this would probably act wonderfully for anti-depressant or day-starting application. While I prefer more indica kick to my medicine, it’s clear this is a potent strain with strong effects on the mind, so it’s a treat to use.
Note:
I might come back to this, I might not. I’ve spent the last 30 minutes since the testing portion around the internet getting some work done, and thinking strongly about an early dinner… Or at least a snack… I can defintitely say the effects of this are strong, but as always, I’d prefer a bit more indica for a billion different reasons. It’s like the stuff was designed just for me…

Rockstar (aka Rockstar Kush) is one of my favourite strains for true medical qualities. Opening the container released a thick peppery smell and cracking the nugs really release the skunky and kushy tones. Beyond such an inviting smell, a great coating of trichomes from thin (perfectly snappable!) stems to the tip of the (2.5g max) buds leave a some sticky resin on your fingers and make rolling a dream. This batch is a bit lighter in colour than last year, but it still screams dank indica.

3:09 – Sparked. Beautiful kushy taste, hints of black pepper & flowery greatness.
3:11 – Small cough brought rush of blood behind my eyes, warmed my whole face.
3:12 – Deep hauls expanding like explosives in the lungs. Face definitely heating up.
3:13 – Ash is at least 85% white. Burning very evenly, haven’t had to fix it.

3:18 – No big strain from the cough, the indica in this is crazy. I am sweating.

3:21 – Put it out around 1/4″ when the last haul was hot on my tongue.3:22 – wow.
Conclusion: 9/10
I’ve had Rockstar a few times now, and luckily this is at least the second year I’ve been able to sample it from the same source. It’s only gotten better. This batch definitely lives up to it’s name as you can see in my testing report. It definitely makes a big entrance. The indica comes through almost immediately with sweats and expanding smoke, but levels out into very relaxing effects, and isn’t too overwhelming after that initial peak. The couchlock can make itself apparent, but I found there was enough cerebral/sativa influence to keep me writing, a lot. It also stimulated my appetite, even the day after a massive thanksgiving dinner with family and friends I’m finally feeling like a snack! A huge winner for anyone dealing with pain, especially because its possible to concentrate if required…

Note:
Matt Mernagh reports the genetics as “Paradise Seeds Sensi Star crossed with Soma’s Rock Bud (Super skunk – Big Skunk Korean – Afghani – Afghani-Hawaiian)” so its not just a great name, it’s a truly intense combination of famous and excessively potent strains. With all that afghani there is really no wonder I like it so much!

This sativa dominant blend of genetics comes with a pretty bad ass name, so I expect a lot from this sample. It arrived in a sealed container and greeted me with a very fresh, flowery plant smell when opened. Though the buds aren’t massive (largest in photo below, give or take 3g), the airy formations seem to thicken up as they build out from the stems. The curing job was clearly done with care, the stems are thin with light green/grey colouring (and high snappability!). Wispy orange hairs make a complete coating of the buds and give the overall sample a deceivingly darker appearance. A fine dusting of trichomes is visible when I look close, and are thicker in some areas than others. Breaking up my batch for testing the aroma really kicks in, taking on much deeper and muskier tones.

A rub of my face and stretch of the arms feels great and refreshing, but I’m very conflicted about what to do now… Gaming? Eating? The work I’m supposed to do? Sit here and space out for awhile? Laugh at my own indecisiveness?
Conclusion: 8/10
I really enjoyed the taste and smell of this sample, though I think the only reason The Hulk didn’t get closer a 9 (I don’t give 10′s) is that I’m generally an indica person. It’s effects certainly helped reinforce the name because they come on strong, and the inhalation was very smooth even with large hauls. Medically, its effects are so cerebral that I’d wager people with depression or brain related illness would find it most effective. For mood enhancement and instilling some energy this stuff is right up there with the sativa Green Crack geno. The inconsistency of the trichome coverage is still a bit of a mystery to me, but I haven’t seen this strain before… Next season’s crop will be very interesting to see. Try it out!
Note: The name says it all, but finding solid information on this strain’s genetics was really difficult, there are lots of conflicting reports… I’m very confident in saying “This is a sativa” though. Stay tuned for more, and contact me if you want a writeup.

What a pretty plant! This sample comes from my ultra-consistent high-grade friends in British Columbia, and the Headband (AKA Headband Kush) is no exception to their standards of quality. This strain is said to be a cross of powerful genetic lines; OG Kush X Master Kush X Sour Diesel, and I wouldn’t argue… This is easily one of the most original looking strains I’ve come across. My test batch seems like a good dose of Diesel genetics (check out the sometimes “spinning” calyx formations & over abundance of yellows & deep golds) that are offset by the darker & denser kush bloodlines. Trichromes evenly coat the buds, most of which are about the size of popcorn, but it’s the the bigger nugs that really show off the cross-breeding in this “super-strain”. The smell is fresh and inviting, stinging the nose (in a good way) once broken up.

After a heavy session at the gym then taking care of all the work nonsense on my list, the opportunity to test and review my batch of Headband made itself known… So I rolled one up and sat down behind the monitor…
The following is a minute-to-minute report on my findings and feelings, as they happened.
2:40 – Sparked. Easy to light. No issues to report, Over.
2:41 – Kush taste with sweet fruity overtones, very smooth burn to mostly white ash.
2:42 – New Orleans jazz is great backing music for this.
2:43 – 1 nice big cough as smoke expands in my lungs. Breathing out slowly put a little tingle behind my eyes.
2:44 – Eyelids are getting heavy, I’m squinting for some reason.
2:46 – A little coughing fit gives way to a rush of warmth through my veins, right to my fingertips
2:46 – Fuck that felt nice.
2:48 – 2/3rds through and I’m all smiles. It tastes beautiful. I just dropped it on my calender by accident.
2:49 – Still can’t think of anything witty to say about dropping the joint. I’m a space cadet.
2:50 – Nearing the roach, getting much harsher but still tastes nice. Feeling heavily medicated…

2:51 – it went out while I was coughing, which is cool because I’m pretty wrecked and will save this for someone who likes roaches. She’s pretty.
Conclusion: 8.5/10
I think the name is fitting. About 15 mins after my session I still felt the full effects, along with what I can only describe as “a headache without the ache”. Very interesting, and definitely related to an indica. This strain is not one for work, as noted it turned me into a space cadet and concentration was limited to telling jokes with my friend on BBM… I had absolutely no urge to write this conclusion, but for the sake of science I kept it going.
3:05 – My brain is dumbed right down but still restless, and my body is relaxed. I think this combo of effects would make Headband great medication before a comedy show…
Finally, this is a perfect after work/evening smoke, definitely at the top of the hybrid game. It hits hard right away and left me with a very positive vibe, and I didn’t even finish the joint all the way.
Note: I only review marijuana that is of the highest quality. I also don’t give 10′s. This is an uphill battle for any strain/grower, but one I’m proud and happy to keep working on. Somebody has to be a hardass. Stay tuned for more, and contact me if you want a writeup.

Perfect timing to go sit down, nightclub fight scene started not 5 minutes from putting my feet up! This isn’t an ad, but Tron:Legacy is seriously dope. Anyways, back to the science. I wasn’t really impressed with this strain, or at least this batch. I did get a great afternoon nap in once the effects creeped up, and I woke up hungry so its an easy call as an indica dominant hybrid. The first joints of this I smoked really didn’t hit hard, which I found a little disappointing considering the meds are so high priced. I saved the top chunk of the nicest, densest cone in the batch for my testing session, and while it was enjoyable and offered up an excellent afternoon nap, there is just no “wow” to this strain.
Note:
I’m definitely spoiled. This is one of the lowest scoring strains I’ve posted. Going back through some of the incredible plants I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing shows off just how diverse the effects can be. I’m always on the lookout for high-powered indicas, they’ve been my preference since learning the difference between strains as a teen, and with the spinal bullshit I deal with it totally makes sense.
