Canadian Politics : Vote or GTFO
I’ve been planning a post like this for some time, but due to time constraints I don’t think I’ll be able to write as much as I’d hoped. I can only imagine the party leaders feel the same…
This whole thing is rushed, but I for one want this federal election to happen. Its time for Canada to take a really good look at itself. Living here my entire life has provided me the unique view of a 4th generation citizen. I’m a caucasian male, single with no kids, living in the middle of our largest city, working with a start-up manufacturing company. I am not a political activist. I am a well-enough educated young man with a dose of creative energy, and a metric fuck-ton of attitude.
You, if you’re a Canadian citizen, need to go vote tomorrow. The reason its so important is because living here makes you part of this big, beautiful, powerful place… And on the world’s stage, having the right leadership and direction is crucial. You need to take whatever time is necessary to put an X in that box tomorrow, to ensure that this amazing country is truly a home for yourself and your family, progressing positively, and represented on that stage in a way that you can stand behind.
Representation, having someone speak for me, has always been an issue of mine. I don’t like it, and in that way I’m fiercely independant… Right now Stephen Harper’s Conservative party is leading my country. I’m always surprised to hear their representatives speak, because their opinions are such a stretch from what I personally believe. Angry, as well. Over the past 30 days I’ve payed a fair bit of attention to Canadian politics and I’m very glad I have, because its lit a fire under my ass to say something.
Stephen Harper doesn’t speak for me. The Conservative Party of Canada doesn’t align with my values on nearly all points. The flag I’ve grown up under doesn’t represent the agendas of a dying, non-progressive society.
So, there it is. I got my opinion out there. How many will see it? How many think I’m a fool? How many are just like me?
We’ll find out tomorrow. Go vote.
